Who can attend?
JEANC member advisers and their students are welcome to attend without cost. Advisers who are not yet members can join online before the conference or pay for membership on site.
How many students can one adviser bring?
Member advisers may bring as many students as they’d like. We simply ask that you have a reasonable number of chaperones, using your professional judgement, for your number of students. Please register for the event in advance so we have an accurate count for lunch.
Can students attend without an adviser?
As long as their adviser is a member, students may attend with another chaperone.
What’s the schedule for the day?
There will be three breakout sessions, a lunch presentation, and a contest in the afternoon. Here’s the tentative itinerary:
9:00 am — Registration
10 am — Session 1
11 am — Session 2
12 pm — Lunch, Keynote presentation
1:15 pm — Session 3
2:15 — Contests (optional, with fee)
For more details, take a look at the tentative list of sessions offered this year.
What about lunch?
As a benefit of membership, a pizza lunch and water will be provided by JEANC for everyone in attendance.
What are the contests? Are they required?
Optional on-site contests will be offered for students who would like to participate. Advisers should pre-register students online and will have the option to pay for contests using PayPal or by bringing a check made out to JEANC to the conference. Participants should check in at the contest registration table in the morning to receive instructions.
How will contest participants know if they receive an award?
Contest winners will be announced on the JEANC website and certificates for winners will be mailed directly to schools using the school email provided on the registration form.
What is Best of the West?
Best of the West is contest long-held by JEANC at the bi-annual state convention. Publications may enter to compete for best in the region, with the publication in each category named Best of the West receiving a plaque. Other winners will receive a certificate. Entry fee for this contest is $10 per publication.
Are there sessions offered for advisers? Can advisers lead sessions for other advisers or students?
There will be some adviser-specific sessions, including a UC approval workshop, a JEANC member meet and greet, and several topical sessions. We would love for member advisers to volunteer to teach sessions. To do so, simply complete our online proposal form.
