Adviser Teach-In

Our annual Adviser Teach-In will take place on Jan. 18, 2025 on the Cal Poly campus in San Luis Obispo. The university’s journalism department is excited to host us for a second year, and we’ll have a chance to check out the impressive facilities while we’re there.  

This retreat-style event, which is co-sponsored by our friends from SCJEA, will include two strands of learning sessions throughout the day Saturday, as well as an opportunity to join a social gathering that evening. We know it’s a long haul for some advisers, but we hope that this central location will allow for participants from both of our regional scholastic journalism groups. We are happy to help facilitate carpooling and room-sharing options if you let us know you’d like some help (or feel free to post in the JEANC Advisers email Google Group anytime!). Cal Poly will provide lunch on Saturday.

Here is our speaker proposal form inviting you to serve as a potential presenter. In order to give organizers time to review session proposals and create the learning strands schedule, proposals are due Dec. 1. 

The registration form is open so you can secure your spot. Event registration is $75. All attendees, including speakers, must register. The teach-in includes a certificate of completion that may help you secure professional development funding from your site/district. 

If you’re looking into lodging, The Oxford Suites in Pismo has rooms priced around $140/night. The Wayfarer is much closer to campus in SLO but doesn’t have discounted rooms because it is a holiday weekend. There is not an official hotel or contract for our teach-in event, so feel free to stay wherever best meets your needs.
