Sarah Nichols, MJE, Yearbook Chair & Teach-in Co-Coordinator
Sarah Nichols advises Whitney High Student Media which includes “Details” yearbook, “The Roar” news magazine and “Whitney Update” news website in Rocklin. She is the past president of the Journalism Education Association and is active in JEA as a mentor and member of its Digital Media and Scholastic Press Rights committees. Nichols works on the #Press4Education initiative as a Journalism Education committee member of the Society of Professional Journalists. For the past 25 years, she has been an active workshop instructor, convention speaker and volunteer in scholastic journalism. Her students have been honored with local, state and national awards, including Best of the West, Pacemakers and Crowns. Nichols has been honored by JEA with its Carl Towley Award, Medal of Merit and National Yearbook Adviser of the Year. She is an NSPA Pioneer and CSPA Gold Key recipient as well. Nichols got her start with JEANC in 2004 and has been a board member ever since, including serving a term as president. Outside of her work in scholastic journalism, she is passionate about the San Francisco Giants, live music, travel, reading and paddleboarding.
